Oxygen Infusion Therapy Explained

Cells require oxygen to function and survive, more specifically for collagen production, epithelial growth, blood vessel function, healing and detoxification. The mitochondria are the “powerhouse of the cells” and are primarily responsible for converting glucose and oxygen into ATP energy for cell growth, division and function. As we age, the level of oxygen in the cells decreases. This contributes to increased mitochondrial injury and production of ATP cellular energy decreases. ROS or free radical generation increases causing oxidative damage in cells and tissues. This can result in a decline in cellular processes and can lead to irreversible cell damage. This negatively affects skin rejuvenation and can be characterised by a loss of skin elasticity, dull complexion, age spots and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.

Oxygen infusion therapy works by producing an oxygen enriched product by concentrating the oxygen contained in the air from 21% to around 95%. The enriched oxygen product is administered to the skin using a specially designed handpiece together with serums that are rich in actives and antioxidants. These help to neutralise the ROS (reactive oxygen species)/ free radicals in the cells.

Concentrated High Pressure Oxygen Technology

  • Oxygen Infusion Therapy can be used as a stand-alone treatment or can be administered together with other modalities as part of an effective skin management program. It’s recommended to immediately follow microdermabrasion while the skin is open and needs nourishment and accelerated healing.
  • Oxygen contained in the air is concentrated from 21% to around 94% using the Clairderm OxyLite system.
  • The enriched high-pressure oxygen (7PSI at up 5 litres/minute) is applied topically to the skin using the specially designed infusion wand.

    • Clairderm Oxygen Infusion Therapy is very popular prior to “special events” like wedding days, parties and gala ceremonies, public speaking and celebrity award events. It can be a stand-alone treatment.
    • For best skin rejuvenation results it’s best to perform this treatment, as part of a strict skin rejuvenation program, after microdermabrasion as the skin is “Open” and needs nourishment and accelerated healing. (Not prior to a special occasion.)

  3. Are there any precautions that I must take when undergoing Clairderm Oxygen Infusion Therapy?
    • It’s recommended to refrain from any invasive procedures whilst undergoing Clairderm Oxygen Infusion Therapy unless advised by your practitioner.
    • Waxing is not recommended 2 days prior to or for at least 7 days after the treatment.
    • We strongly advise against the use of sun beds and swimming in heavily chlorinated water or salt water for at least 1 week after the last Clairderm Oxygen Infusion Therapy has been performed.
  4. How do I care for my skin after Clairderm Oxygen Infusion Therapy?
    • Clairderm Oxygen Infusion Therapy increases oxygen in the skin cells and improves skin hydration. The instant plumping of the skin greatly improves the appearance of all imperfections.
    • To ensure the longevity of results, it’s recommended that a strict maintenance program, using a professional cosmeceutical skin care range such as the BeautyMed High-Tech Active skin care, is followed. This should include using a pH balancing cleanser and applying Clairderm SPF50+, Broad Spectrum, Moisturising Daily Defence Sunscreen Lotion together with a quality range of regenerating, hydrating and nutritive creams and serums
Treatment Precautions

There are no known contraindications relating specifically to oxygen therapy. However, give careful consideration to the skin care products that are used in conjunction with the therapy as these may have ingredients that could cause a reaction. The following precautions should be noted:

  • It’s recommended to avoid products with unpredictable ingredients such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Retinols and Hydroquinone (lightening agent) directly before or after a treatment. Wait 24-48 hours before applying any products utilising these ingredients.
  • Chemicals peels often contain AHAs and BHAs and should also be avoided directly before and after a treatment.
  • This therapy is not recommended for specific conditions outlined in the detailed training guide.
Treatment Procedure

During a single treatment, the skin is soothed, plumped and lifted, with a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. The skin feels soft and smooth to the touch with increased hydration levels. As a stand-alone treatments it’s ideal for special occasions. When used to promote skin rejuvenation, as part of a skin management program, it should be performed after microdermabrasion and LED Phototherapy. This is because the skin is “open” and needs nourishment and accelerated healing.

STEP 1 CLEANSE (5 MINS)
  • Gently cleanse the skin using Clairderm Gentle Purifying Cleanser to remove make-up, dirt and impurities.
STEP 2 APPLY PROFESSIONAL STRENGTH SERUMS (5 MINS)
  • Liberally apply professional strength serums, containing the appropriate active ingredients, onto the skin.
  • Suggested treatment serums BeautyMed Hyaluronic Acid Serum, BeautyMed Collagen & Elastin Serum, BeautyMed Epidermal Growth Factor and Clairderm Regenerating Serum.
STEP 3 – OXYGEN INFUSION THERAPY (10 MINS)
  • Perform the Oxygen Infusion Therapy using Clairderm OxyLite, doing 3 passes on each area.
STEP 4 POST PROCEDURE (5-10 MINS)
  • At this point you can customise the treatment to suit your salon and add any number of optional additions to increase your range of menu treatments with your Clairderm OxyLite. These include applying nourishing/hydrating masks, massages and moisturizers.
STEP 5 MAINTENANCE
  • To ensure the results are maintained it’s recommended that a strict maintenance program, using a professional cosmeceutical skin care range such as the BeautyMed High-Tech Active skin care OR Clairderm Cosmeceuticals, is followed.

Outstanding Results

Although the results of oxygen therapy are immediate, the effect continues to work long after the treatment. This is due to increased oxygen levels in the cells which help to stimulate cell regeneration. During a single treatment, the skin is soothed, plumped and lifted.
