3. What does a typical phototherapy treatment plan involve?

• Treatments last 20 minutes.

Treatment Precautions

When performing LED Phototherapy the use of goggles is mandatory for this treatment. It’s essential that the patient has the goggles on and that they are in the correct place before starting a treatment. If the patient finds the light excessively bright, cotton pads or other safe items like eye pads/eye pillows can be applied to the eyes, underneath the goggles, to help block the light. Generally, phototherapy is a very safe, gentle, non-invasive procedure, however it may increase the skin’s sensitivity to products and may also increase reactivity to sunlight. It is recommended:

• That direct exposure to sunlight is avoided following a treatment or an SPF50+ sunscreen, like Clairderm SPF50+ Broad Spectrum, Moisturising Daily Defence Sunscreen Lotion, is used before going into sunlight.
• The use of solariums and swimming in chlorinated water is avoided whilst undergoing treatments.
• That a professional cosmeceutical maintenance program is followed using Clairderm Cosmeceutical skin care, to support the treatments and ensure the achievement of the best results.
• That a phototherapy treatment is not performed in certain instances highlighted in the training guide.

Dry diamond microdermabrasion makes use of inert materials, like inox-steel for the mechanical parts and diamond tips. Allergy cases are therefore quite rare. It is however recommended that the clinician performs a test patch with a soft exfoliation when a client comes in for the first time. This should preferably be done on a less visible part of the face such as the neck or under the ear. (Any redness should settle within 24 hours.)

It is recommended that the patient refrains from any invasive procedures prior to having a Clairderm dry microdermabrasion procedure unless advised by a practitioner. The following additional precaution should also be noted:

• Waxing is not recommended 2 days prior to or for at least 7 days after the microdermabrasion procedure.
• We strongly advise against using sun beds and swimming in heavily chlorinated water or salt water for at least 1 week after the last Clairderm PhotonLite Diamond procedure has been performed.
• Microdermabrasion is not recommended for specific skin conditions outlined in the detailed training guide.

Treatment Procedure

Phototherapy is completely safe and does not produce a thermal reaction in the skin which makes it a very comfortable and pleasant treatment. Whilst some results can be seen immediately, the best results are achieved from a course of treatments with benefits continuing to show well after the initial course.

PRE-TREATMENT

• Prior to starting a treatment, the patient must be lying comfortably on the bed with their goggles in place. The machine and LED panel sets must be positioned to adequately cover the treatment area.
• The large adjustable head should be lowered over the treatment area to ensure optimal power delivery.
• The LED head, containing the light panels, can be gently pulled away from the machine using the retractable arm and curved around the treatment area to provide better coverage.

STEP 1 – CLEANSE (3 MINS)

• Gently cleanse, using a pH balancing cleanser, like Clairderm Gentle Purifying Cleanser, to remove makeup, dirt & impurities.
• Wash cleanser off & pat dry.

STEP 2 – ATTACH DIAMOND HANDPIECE (1 MINS)

• To connect the diamond handpiece, simply insert the tube into the diamond handpiece tube port. To disconnect the diamond handpiece simply push in the blue ring around the tube port, hold as you then pull the tube out.

STEP 3 – DIAMOND MICRODERMABRASION PRE TREATMENT (2 MINS)

• Select the appropriate diamond tip for the treatment & attach to end of the Diamond handpiece.
• To start the vacuum pump, press the “diamond” mode on the touchscreen. Press “diamond” mode again to turn off the pump.
• To test vacuum pressure place finger over end nozzle of handpiece and turn pressure control knob until the desired pressure is reached.

STEP 4 – DIAMOND MICRO TREATMENT (15 MINS)

• You are now ready to perform a diamond microdermabrasion treatment.
• Follow the directional instructions (One pass).
• When complete turn off machine.

STEP 5 – POST PROCEDURE (5-7 MINS)

• Customize the post procedure treatment to suit your salon and client.
• These include LED light therapy treatment and applying hydrating, regenerating serums; vitamin treatments; nourishing, hydrating masks; massages and moisturisers.
• Finally apply Clairderm SPF50+, Broad Spectrum, Moisturising Daily Defence Sunscreen Lotion (CD40503).

MODERATE ACNE

Subject presented with moderate acne.

• Treatment: 3 x phototherapy treatments (1 every 2 weeks) and 6 x microdermabrasion treatments (1 per week for 6 weeks).
