Skin Analysis explained

As we know the consultation process is as important as the treatment stage and understanding your client’s skin is key to developing an effective skin management plan that they can see is working. It’s critical that it addresses individual skin concerns and “Repairs the past, treats the present and protects the future.” This can only be achieved if the overall health of the skin, both inside and out, is completely understood. The skin is much more complex than what can be seen with the naked eye and the surface appearance of the skin only tells half the story. It’s what the eyes can’t see that we also need to be concerned about. Many of the skin conditions that negatively impact on the future health and beauty of the skin originate from the deeper, invisible layers of the skin. A Clairderm Skin Analysis system uses a high quality 1500W camera and lens to scan the skin. It uses 3 spectrums to give a detailed analysis of both the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. In addition, it diagnoses 10 different skin conditions and recommends a customised treatment plan that addresses individual skin concerns.

RGB pore, spot and wrinkle spectrums scan the skin and diagnose epidermal skin conditions

  • Combines red, green and blue wavelengths of natural light to analyse and diagnose epidermal skin conditions. These include pore congestion, wrinkle formation, fine line distribution, skin micro relief, loss of collagen and acne.
  • RGB Pore highlights areas where the pores are enlarged and infected and have the potential to become blocked.
  • RGB Spot gives a visual of the distribution of spots on the skin’s surface.
  • RGB wrinkle gives a detailed analysis of wrinkles, their depth and location as well as veins on the skin’s surface.

PL Spectrum scans the skin and diagnoses epidermal skin conditions

  • Uses polarised light to optimise image clarity and analyse and diagnose epidermal skin conditions.
  • PL texture: Shows rough, concave‐convex unsmooth areas on the skin’s surface (such as welts, dents, scars). As well as areas that are not clean and are contaminated with dust particles and small wrinkles caused when the skin is too dry. (Grey -healthy state, Yellow -medium state, Red and orange-serious state, needs attention).
  • PL Red shows the Dermis’ degree of inflammation and areas of sensitivity.
  • PL Brown shows the metabolic condition of the dermis, its cellular activity, and its ability to repair.

UV Spectrum scans the skin and diagnoses dermal skin conditions

  • Uses Skin Fluorescence Technology to expose the skin cells to 365nm UV light. The cells emit this light in unique colours and patterns depending on the skin’s condition. This ensures that a variety of dermis skin conditions can be identified with unparalleled clarity and contrast.
  • UV Porphyrin shows Phorphyrin in acne and comedones, the number and location of blackheads, closed pores and acne as well as the location of the skin’s grease secretions and oily areas.
  • UV Pigmentation shows the amount and areas of skin pigmentation, spots and cosmetic hangover or residue left in the dermis caused by the excessive use of cosmetics.
  • UV Moisture indicates the skin’s moisture content and the status of the skin’s hydration. A neutral state of skin moisture is good, oily and dry skin both lack water. The larger the blue area, the higher the percentage and greater the skin’s moisture content.
  • UV Damage shows the areas where the skin is damaged as well as sunspots caused by ultraviolet rays.

  1. How is the skin prepared prior to the skin analysis?
    • The skin is double cleansed using Clairderm Gentle Purifying Cleanser.
  2. How long will the skin analysis take?
    • The clinician will create a new file for you which takes a few seconds.
    • The scan, analysis, diagnosis and effective treatment plan recommendation takes around 60 seconds.
    • After the analysis the clinician will discuss an appropriate customised skin management plan that will address individual skin concerns.
  3. Why is having a skin analysis so important to the long-term health and wellbeing of the skin?
    • There’s no doubt that everyone wants beautiful, healthy skin. The best way to achieve this is to implement an effective skin management plan.
    • When it comes to skin management plans “one size” definitely doesn’t fit all! A customised plan, that addresses individual skin concerns, is what really works. To do this it’s important that the skin’s condition in clearly understood. The skin is much more complexed than what can be seen with the naked eye. It’s what the eyes can’t see that we also need to be concerned about. Many of the skin conditions that negatively impact on the future health and beauty of the skin originate from the deeper, invisible layers of the skin.
    • A Clairderm Skin Analysis will give a detailed analysis of both the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin.
    • It will diagnose 10 different skin conditions and recommend a customised treatment plan that addresses individual skin concerns.
    • With a skin analysis you can track the improvement in the skin over time. This is all the evidence that is needed to show that the treatment plan is really working.
  4. What do the results mean?
    • After the analyser has scanned the face it will provide 10 images of the skin that give an in-depth diagnosis of 10 skin conditions. The clinician will evaluate the analysis report. Then recommend a customised treatment plan that addresses the individual skin concerns highlighted in the analysis and provides the best long-term skin health possible.
  5. Is there any downtime associated with a skin analysis?
    • There is no discomfort during or any downtime after a skin analysis.
  6. How often can I have a skin analysis?
    • This can be done as often as is required.
    • We recommend that it’s done prior to all treatments as part of the skin management plan.
    • This will enable you to accurately track your skin’s progress and address any underlying skin health concerns as soon as possible. This is the best way to ensure that the skin remains at optimum health.
  7. Does the software on the system update automatically?
    • Yes, it does. The software version on the system will update automatically and regularly. To confirm the update the dialog box needs to be clicked.
    • Remember that updates do take a bit of time so don’t update the machine just before a consultation as this might delay your skin analysis.
    • Updates should be done before the day starts.
Treatment Precautions

To date there are no known contraindications associated with a skin analysis. We do however suggest that the patient keep their eyes closed during the analysis.
